The agricultural and applied economics PhD program mandates a minimum of 70 credit hours of graduate coursework post-bachelor's degree, plus an additional 20 credit hours dedicated to dissertation research. This curriculum cultivates comprehensive expertise in advanced economic principles, quantitative analysis methods, and the management of agricultural and economic policy matters. Students can select from various committee-approved elective courses, which may be taken either within or outside the department upon advisory committee approval. These electives can be combined across disciplines or focused to establish an official minor in another academic unit. A distinctive partnership enables candidates to minor in personal financial planning through a collaborative doctoral initiative between our department and the College of Human Sciences. Graduates who complete this agricultural and applied economics doctorate with a personal financial planning minor become eligible to sit for the Certified Financial Planner examination overseen by the Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards.
