Students who earn a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Science fulfill both degree and certification requirements, qualifying them to teach all science subjects for grades 7 through 12 in Texas. This program mandates 43 credit hours of Science coursework for Composite Science certification. Learners can pursue a minor to focus on a specific scientific discipline like chemistry or biology. While two semesters of one foreign language serve as foundational coursework, this requirement may be exempted for students with two years of high school foreign language. Those beginning at Texas Tech University in Fall 2017 or later must fulfill a Communication Literacy component within their degree plan. The shift from Writing Intensive to Communication Literacy requirements reflects the university's recognition that while writing remains essential for developing and organizing ideas, students must also master other communication methods relevant to their field. Each academic program provides extensive opportunities for students to enhance communication skills vital to their discipline.
