The Bachelor of Fine Arts program specializing in studio art provides intensive training in studio disciplines, mandating 82 credit hours in art and art history alongside 41-51 hours of general education requirements set by the J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual & Performing Arts. For studio art coursework beyond the foundational level, one-third must be in disciplines outside the student's primary focus, selected with advisor consent. Electives may include transmedia and drawing courses. Before graduating, students must complete every course within their chosen specialization. Participation in a spring semester group exhibition is mandatory for studio art graduates. The program requires at least 123 credit hours, with 40 credits at the upper-division level. While completing Art Foundations coursework, students must apply for a specialization in ceramics, jewelry design and metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, or transmedia by submitting a portfolio of foundational work. Specialization departments conduct regular progress evaluations.
