The Master of Education (M.Ed.) specializing in Special Education offers coursework in special education along with a cognate or minor, tailored to each student's academic path. Students can choose between a general special education master's, a specialized concentration, or a master's program combined with teaching certification. Specialization options cover autism and applied behavior analysis, behavioral disorders with positive behavioral supports, and learning disabilities with inclusion strategies. Those earning a special education degree may also qualify for Texas State certifications in autism, behavioral disorders with positive behavioral supports, or learning disabilities with inclusion approaches. Certification programs require 18-21 credit hours, with most credits counting toward the master's degree.
Our special education program aims to develop educators and specialists who implement research-backed methods to help individuals with disabilities achieve independence, responsibility, and personal fulfillment in our diverse world. Graduates become leaders who conduct practical research, shape special education policies and teaching methods, and use their expertise to promote inclusive environments and effective support systems for those benefiting from specialized educational approaches.
