The Bachelor of Science in Recreation Studies integrates academic coursework, hands-on field experience, and professional training through two specialized pathways: recreation administration and therapeutic recreation. The curriculum covers essential topics including program development, leadership strategies, marketing approaches, assessment methods, management principles, and therapeutic recreation practices. Alumni pursue careers across diverse settings such as campgrounds, senior care facilities, community centers, vacation destinations, medical institutions, rehab clinics, gyms, and public parks. This degree holds national accreditation from COAPRT (Council on Accreditation, Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions) for both recreation studies and therapeutic recreation concentrations. Program completers qualify to take certification exams for either the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (earning CTRS credentials) or the National Recreation and Park Association (obtaining CPRP designation).
Program alumni oversee operations, coordinate activities, and deliver services that enhance community wellbeing through meaningful recreational opportunities. Employment environments span private recreation businesses, charitable organizations, and municipal recreation departments.
