The Bachelor of Science in Recreation Therapy prepares students to provide recreational services for people with illnesses, disabilities, aging populations, and those in correctional facilities. This program is relevant across clinical, transitional, and community environments, with a particular focus on therapeutic recreation for children and adults facing physical, cognitive, social, or emotional challenges. The Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration Department provides three distinct Bachelor of Science options, a Master of Science program, plus various Minor and Certificate offerings. These curricula equip students with essential competencies for overseeing personnel, programming, and activities in diverse recreational contexts - from municipal parks and state/national park systems to hospitality venues, fitness centers, tourist attractions, therapeutic recreation initiatives, and nonprofit community organizations. The programs additionally foster knowledge of professional ethics, advocacy efforts, inclusive practices, and contemporary assessment methods relevant to multiple workplace environments.
