The Bachelor of Science in Public Health equips students with comprehensive knowledge, practical skills, and hands-on experience for careers in public health. This program aims to cultivate expertise in health promotion across various settings (including communities, government agencies, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities) by employing evidence-based approaches to create, execute, and assess public health initiatives that influence personal habits, community conditions, and health policies. Students can pursue the general B.S. in Public Health or select from three specialized tracks: Applied Epidemiology, Health Equity, or Health and Wellness Coaching. Program graduates make significant contributions to public health and health promotion fields, finding employment with government health departments, corporations, non-profits, and clinical environments specializing in areas like chronic disease prevention, epidemiology, mental health services, substance abuse prevention, policy development, environmental health, maternal/child health, or workplace wellness. This degree also serves as a foundation for advanced studies in public health, health promotion, allied health professions, dentistry, or medicine. Graduates qualify to take national certification exams for Health Education Specialists (CHES) and Wellness Practitioners (CWP).
The Public Health Internship component allows students to collaborate with health organizations on semester-long projects that apply public health and exercise science principles in community settings. Placement options include public/community health programs, corporate wellness initiatives, and community health promotion efforts.
