The Doctor of Education in Bilingual Education (Ed.D.) is an advanced program tailored for professionals seeking expertise in educating language minorities, second language learners, and developing bi/multilingual curricula. This 63-credit-hour program includes twenty-one doctoral courses covering education, history, sociology, Spanish, and other languages. The Department of Teacher and Bilingual Education delivers all instruction on educational practices, methodologies, and curriculum development.
While emphasizing the educational needs of Mexican American school-age students through field experiences and research, the program allows students to focus on other linguistic/cultural groups or age ranges (such as adult learners) in their research and dissertation topics. Modern bi/multilingual education theories often extend beyond Mexican Americans, applying to indigenous, tribal, and marginalized language communities globally.
