Social work as a profession is rooted in core values including service provision, advocacy for social and economic fairness, respect for individual dignity, the significance of human connections, and maintaining professional integrity and skills. Guided by these fundamental principles, Texas A&M University-Kingsville's social work program focuses on equipping graduates with the skills needed for entry-level, generalist practice with diverse communities. The program emphasizes upholding professional standards, ethical practice, and advancing social work knowledge to create effective service systems. In Texas and elsewhere, positions designated as social worker roles legally require licensure at either the BSW, MSW, or clinical practice level.
Texas A&M University-Kingsville's Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) program holds accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. Earning the B.S.W. involves completing 120 credit hours, with 54 dedicated to social work courses and 66 to liberal arts and related subjects. Notably, social work majors aren't required to declare a minor field of study.
