The Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences program mandates completion of at least 120 credit hours: 42 from University Core Curriculum courses, 57 from atmospheric sciences core classes, and 21 from specialized career track courses. The core curriculum gives students comprehensive training in meteorology and climate studies, meeting the qualifications for National Weather Service meteorologist roles (classified as NOAA GS1340 positions). Participants can specialize in either general atmospheric sciences or broadcast meteorology. Students are encouraged to pick their career path early, ideally after their first year and before starting their third year.
The program provides two specialization options: the General Atmospheric Sciences Track and the Broadcast Meteorologist Track. Graduates from either track will meet the federal employment standards for National Weather Service meteorologists. Both tracks require 21 credit hours of elective coursework.
