The Master of Science (MS) in Poultry Science provides a thesis-based program designed for individuals holding a bachelor's degree to deepen their expertise through advanced coursework, teaching opportunities, research initiatives, and scientific writing. Students receive personalized guidance from faculty mentors while working in dedicated research laboratories.
The program starts with assembling a graduate committee, creating a degree roadmap, and drafting a research proposal. From day one, students compile a literature review to enhance their research quality and facilitate academic publications. MS candidates typically complete at least two significant research projects, aiming to produce two peer-reviewed articles before or shortly after graduation. These projects are presented at scientific conferences to develop public speaking abilities, professional connections, and career-building skills. Participants may also gain teaching experience by assisting with undergraduate courses and labs. The program culminates in a final examination where students defend their research before a faculty committee. Graduates often pursue doctoral studies or careers in industry, government, or academic settings, securing positions as research technicians, technical sales specialists, or university instructors.
With more than a century of excellence, Texas A&M University's Poultry Science Department stands as the nation's largest—twice the size of comparable programs. The department provides Master of Agriculture, MS, and PhD degrees with competitive assistantships to offset educational expenses. Recognized globally as a premier institution for poultry research, our faculty expertise spans nutrition, gut health, disease prevention, reproduction, genetics, animal welfare, immunology, food safety, and waste management. These diverse specializations enable interdisciplinary exploration of poultry nutrition, production systems, disease control, and sustainable practices.
