The M.S. in Maritime Archaeology and Conservation program is structured as a two-year course of study. To earn the degree, students must complete a thesis, which serves as a key qualification for various career paths and is mandatory for inclusion on the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA). Beyond the listed coursework, M.S. candidates must demonstrate proficiency in at least one research-relevant foreign language—either one with substantial academic publications in their field (such as French, German, Spanish, or Russian) or a language needed for their fieldwork. Participants gain access to valuable research experiences and internships through Texas A&M University's Center for Maritime Archaeology and Conservation (CMAC) and the affiliated Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA). Admission to this selective program is granted to a small cohort of applicants through a competitive process.
