Social psychology is a multidisciplinary research area that explores the dynamic relationships between individuals, their interactions, and larger societal frameworks. Key topics of investigation encompass how personal connections and environmental factors shape life experiences, how people navigate daily existence, the roots of violent behavior, how identity markers like gender, age, race, and socioeconomic status affect social dynamics, the role of group interactions in perpetuating or reducing disparities, and the impact of social inequality on psychological well-being, criminal behavior, and social norms.
Our Department presents diverse theoretical approaches and research methods within social psychology. Texas A&M University houses two specialized facilities for social psychology research: the Howard B. Kaplan Laboratory for Social Science Research and the Stuart J. Hysom Social Psychology Laboratory.
