The clinical psychology PhD program, accredited by the American Psychological Association, operates on a scientist-practitioner framework. This program prepares students to become skilled researchers and practitioners, equipping them with methodologies to study and address the origins, prevention, and management of emotional, behavioral, and physical health challenges across diverse populations.
Our approach incorporates a community psychology focus, highlighting the various factors affecting individual and collective wellbeing while prioritizing community involvement in all our initiatives.
The curriculum builds upon developmental and social-ecological viewpoints that consider diverse identities and acknowledge how systemic inequalities affect people and communities. We aim to develop behavioral scientists capable of creating, applying, and assessing approaches that foster fairness, social equity, and reduce healthcare gaps across different environments.
Our faculty represent diverse theoretical approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, family systems, social-ecological, and community-based models. This diversity allows students to gain comprehensive knowledge while specializing in specific research areas and evidence-based practices.
