The soil microbiology program explores diverse research topics across agricultural and urban/suburban landscapes. Our work spans from fundamental studies in microbial ecology to practical applications like land restoration, soil decontamination, and wastewater treatment solutions. Current efforts concentrate on tackling challenges specific to both rural and metropolitan environments. Many studies incorporate an environmental focus, whether examining engineered wetland systems for water purification or investigating how land management practices influence soil carbon cycles - with particular attention to boosting carbon sequestration in Texas soils to help reduce atmospheric CO‚ÇÇ levels. Additionally, our research investigates turfgrass soil microbiology, recognizing its significance in maintaining healthy urban green spaces.
