The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program is structured to provide candidates with an in-depth mastery of their chosen discipline along with rigorous research methodology training. Awarding the degree ultimately depends on the candidate's comprehensive understanding of a wide academic field and proven capacity for autonomous investigation. Candidates must also develop exceptional communication skills, demonstrating clarity and persuasiveness in both speech and writing. While fulfilling coursework, residency, and technical prerequisites is necessary, these alone do not qualify for degree conferral.

The civil engineering Ph.D. program offers eight specialized concentrations, each addressing distinct aspects of modern civil engineering practice.
Our department boasts the nation's most extensive program, with over 350 graduate students and 70+ faculty members in civil and environmental engineering. Consistently ranked among the top 10 graduate programs nationally, we excel in both academic excellence and scale across curriculum, faculty expertise, and research initiatives. Students can pursue two master's degree options (M.S. and M.Eng.) or doctoral studies across twelve civil engineering specializations. With distinguished faculty, cutting-edge facilities, and the vast resources of a premier research institution, we provide an exceptional environment for academic growth and innovation. We invite you to advance your civil engineering career at Texas A&M University.
