The Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning program is housed in Texas A&M University's Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (LAUP), part of the School of Architecture. This program prepares students for careers in planning-related fields while also laying the foundation for advanced studies in areas like Urban Planning and Land Development. The curriculum combines theoretical foundations from natural, physical, and social sciences with practical skills to address the evolving needs of neighborhoods, cities, and regions - focusing on creating safe, healthy, and sustainable environments.
Students develop critical thinking and analytical abilities to solve problems at various scales. Through service-learning projects, they gain hands-on experience in assessing community challenges, designing effective solutions, and evaluating policy outcomes to meet regional needs.
The Urban Design Track concentrates on physical planning aspects, including land use patterns, site development, infrastructure planning (such as transportation networks and drainage systems), and public space design. Students enhance their technical skills through visual communication techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications for both analysis and planning purposes.
