The Bachelor of Science in Geophysics equips students for professional roles across industries, environmental sectors, government agencies, educational institutions, non-profits, and related fields, while also laying a strong foundation for graduate studies. The initial two years mirror the BS in Geology curriculum, establishing core knowledge in geology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Upper-division coursework shifts focus to applying mathematical and physical principles to theoretical and practical geophysics challenges. Through technical electives, students can tailor their studies to align with career goals. The program culminates with GEOL 450, a collaborative capstone research project where seniors tackle real-world problems under faculty guidance and present their solutions. Additionally, students have opportunities to engage in faculty-led research initiatives, earning academic credit via GEOP 291 and GEOP 491. Certain geophysics courses incorporate field-based learning experiences.
