Coursework in aerodynamics, materials and structures, propulsion, and aircraft and spacecraft dynamics and control establishes a solid foundation for advanced studies and specialization. Senior technical electives enable focused study in specialized fields of interest. Design receives particular emphasis through senior design electives and a two-semester senior design sequence with defined goals, objectives, and constraints. This sequence integrates analytical and design methodologies, requiring student teams to design—and sometimes construct, test, and deploy—aerospace systems such as aircraft, rotorcraft, flight simulators, morphing air or space structures, space suits, space habitats, or Mars missions. Most courses require and emphasize the application of contemporary engineering and computational tools.
