The Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies takes an interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach to examining performance. This degree program equips students with critical thinking, analytical, and creative skills that serve as springboards for diverse career paths. Through core Performance Studies coursework, undergraduates explore performance theory, develop live performance techniques, and hone vital research and writing abilities to thrive as engaged citizens, academics, and creative professionals in today's world.
Our department recognizes that live, physical performance offers distinctive insights into human understanding. We celebrate these embodied forms of knowledge alongside other academic disciplines in higher education. BA candidates employ performance as a research methodology across all courses - whether staging theatrical productions, conducting ethnographic studies, creating multimedia projects, or presenting academic work. This approach acknowledges that performers - be they musicians, actors, dancers, or other artists - gain unique perspectives through their craft. Our program teaches students to effectively communicate these specialized understandings to broader audiences.
