Our institution boasts a distinguished legacy of training aspiring art educators, with numerous graduates successfully obtaining California teaching credentials after completing our BA in Art Plan I Visual Studies program. Countless educators throughout Southern California are proud alumni of our program, making meaningful impacts in their communities through diverse avenues.
The Visual Studies specialization within our newly redesigned BA in Art, BFA in Art, and BA in Art Plan I programs provides a vibrant fusion of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. This equips students to participate in public art initiatives while simultaneously preparing them for K-12 art instruction careers.
This modern, interdisciplinary curriculum enables students to explore the relationships between artistic expression, teaching methodologies, community involvement, and social equity. The program readies graduates for professional paths in art education, arts management, community-based art projects, and socially-conscious artistic endeavors. It also provides foundational preparation for advanced studies in Art Education, Fine Arts, Social Practice, Art Therapy, and Arts Administration.
Major coursework focuses on hands-on learning, intellectual exploration, teamwork, and artistic development. Students acquire practical experience through regional internship placements, including multiple on-campus opportunities.
