The Master of Science in Biology provides students with comprehensive advanced training in the Biological Sciences. The program delivers extensive coverage of key research domains in Biology through diverse coursework and specialized seminars. Students have the opportunity to explore complementary scientific disciplines. The curriculum emphasizes preparation for both research and teaching careers. Through the Master of Science in Biology at Temple's College of Science and Technology, students acquire in-depth knowledge across fundamental biological research areas via advanced seminars and tailored coursework. In this demanding program, graduate students collaborate closely with College of Science and Technology faculty to develop original research projects. Faculty expertise spans multiple disciplines, including aquatic and terrestrial ecology, biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics. During their studies, students can concentrate on specialized research areas such as cellular and molecular neuroscience; computational biology with an emphasis on evolutionary genomics; ecology; evolutionary medicine, which analyzes modern human diseases through an evolutionary lens; genetic epidemiology, investigating genetic and environmental influences on contemporary health conditions; molecular, cellular and developmental biology; and population genetics, studying genetic variation across populations over time.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline: A baccalaureate degree in a science field is required.

Statement of Goals: In approximately 500 to 1,000 words, describe your interest in Temple's program, academic achievements, and research goals, and provide the names of up to three faculty with whom you would like to conduct your master's research thesis.

Standardized Test Scores:
GRE: Required, with a combined minimum score of 300 on the quantitative and verbal reasoning sections.

Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master's degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet these minimums:
