The Master of Music in Music Theory offers an extensive curriculum aimed at enhancing expertise in music theory research, analysis, and composition. Graduates with this Music Theory MM are equipped for doctoral studies or careers as composers and performers. Located in the Department of Music Studies, this program features intimate seminar-style classes. The degree concludes with a comprehensive exam and a 30-40 page written project. Students have up to six years to finish the 32-credit program, either full-time or part-time. Qualification Requirements

Coursework Required for Admission Consideration: All applicants must present credentials that are the equivalent of the appropriate Bachelor of Music degree at Temple University, which is based on a curriculum of 124 to 135 hours.

Bachelor's Degree in Discipline/Related Discipline: A degree in Music is expected.

Statement of Goals: Include your special interests within the discipline and expectations for the program.

Standardized Test Scores:
Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master's degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet these minimums:

550 on the paper-based (PBT)

The minimum admissions standard for all graduate students is ordinarily an undergraduate grade point average of B or 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or the functional equivalent for students who have attended universities outside of the United States.

Writing Sample: An applicant must submit with the application for admission an undergraduate-level paper demonstrating her/his ability to do musical analysis and/or report research.
