English majors develop into thoughtful readers and skilled, imaginative writers. The English Department's curriculum examines historical and contemporary artistic, linguistic, literary, and social movements along with their lasting impacts. Study diverse subjects spanning from Shakespeare to representations of race in literature, taught by esteemed faculty with global recognition. Similar to all liberal arts undergraduate programs, an English major equips you with creative and critical thinking skills, enhances social awareness, and fosters problem-solving abilities. This Plus 1 Accelerated Program provides English majors in the College of Liberal Arts with the unique chance to earn both their bachelor's degree and, in the subsequent year, a Master's in Secondary Education. The graduate program fulfills the Pennsylvania Department of Education's criteria for Teacher Certification in Secondary Education: English (Grades 7-12).
