The Master of Arts in museum studies equips students for careers in museums through a comprehensive M.A. program. The curriculum emphasizes research, academic scholarship, exhibition design, and hands-on experience. Core to this program is the philosophy that museum professionals act as bridges connecting audiences with museum collections. The coursework is designed to help students grasp how theoretical concepts apply to real-world practice. On-campus learning occurs at key facilities including the Syracuse University Art Museum, Special Collections Research Center, and Sue and Leon Genet Gallery, complemented by off-site projects across the city and region. Internship opportunities at domestic and international museums and cultural organizations provide further practical experience. We're confident this blend of academic rigor and professional development thoroughly prepares graduates for successful, enduring careers in their selected specialties.
