The Specialized Study in Museum Theory and Practice allows students to translate their academic knowledge into practical museum applications. Developed after reviewing museum programs across the U.S., this curriculum aligns with standards established by the American Association of Museums. It provides focused training in key aspects including: museum operations, curation, financial development, budget management, collections care, educational programming, public outreach, exhibit design, legal considerations, and professional museum standards.

Qualification Requirements
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution, with a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) in all coursework attempted while enrolled as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree
Students who wish to apply for Specialized Study in Museum Theory and Practice must submit to the chairperson of the Archaeology Committee a statement of purpose, a CV, and two letters of reference. The chairperson of the Archaeology Committee will forward applications received to the Archaeology Committee for approval. Normally the deadline for receipt of all application materials is no later than December 15 in the second year of the student's MA program in Classics.
