The Cultural Foundations of Education Ph.D. program brings together scholars to create transformative research addressing crucial issues of equity in education.

With its interdisciplinary focus, the Department of Cultural Foundations of Education enables doctoral candidates to craft specialized research aligned with their academic passions, grounded in the theoretical frameworks provided by CFE's coursework. This customized doctoral experience is shaped by the mentorship of CFE's dedicated faculty members.

The doctoral program mandates at least 90 graduate credits post-bachelor's degree (including 45 in your specialization), plus 9-24 dissertation credits. Full-time students can expect to complete coursework in approximately 2.5 years, with most finishing the degree within 5 years. Because of the unique courses involved in the program, students coming into the PhD program directly from their undergraduate program cannot transfer credits and will increase their time to completion. Therefore, an existing master's degree (or admission to the CFE Master's program is preferred. Students without a Master's degree may be considered with strong GRE scores, undergraduate GPA, recommendations from professors, and an excellent personal statement.
