This 12-credit certificate program targets both current and aspiring higher education professionals (including advisors, administrators in student affairs, and coaches) seeking to grasp the research, practical applications, and policy frameworks related to collegiate athletics and student-athlete development within higher education. The curriculum covers key topics such as: the structure and function of college athletics, theoretical approaches to student development and learning, how race, gender, and socioeconomic factors influence student-athlete opportunities and outcomes, and fundamental principles of advising student-athletes.

Qualification Requirements

Application requirements include a completed bachelor's degree with a grade point average of at least 3.0/4.0 in undergraduate study. Applicants must also complete a personal statement that focuses on their interest in this program and how it fits their academic and professional interests.

Syracuse University graduate students who wish to add this C.A.S. program as a concurrent program of study will have to meet the same GPA criteria for both undergraduate study and study to date in their other graduate program. In addition, these SU graduate students must get written approval from their current program advisor or chair to pursue concurrent programs.

A TOEFL score of 96 or higher or an IELTS of 6.5 or higher is required for our programs.
