The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Studio Arts is designed for aspiring professional artists.
This program centers on creating contemporary art, allowing students to engage deeply with traditional disciplines like ceramics, jewelry-making, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, while also embracing modern forms such as installation art, performance pieces, public artworks, and community-based projects.
Students can specialize in a single traditional medium or adopt an interdisciplinary approach, blending techniques and materials under faculty mentorship and structured advising. Focused on professional development, the program equips artists with the tools to establish enduring creative careers, continuing Syracuse University's tradition of shaping visionary artists and cultural leaders.
The painting concentration fosters personal artistic growth. Students are challenged to explore unconventional methods while cultivating their distinctive creative voice.
Through rigorous studio practice, participants master painting techniques, drawing fundamentals, color theory, and composition using oils, acrylics, watercolors, and experimental materials. Complementary studies in art history and critical theory provide historical context and sharpen analytical skills.
