The Department of Art and Visual Culture provides comprehensive degree programs centered on fine arts and visual studies, featuring courses in studio practice, art historical studies, art instruction, and scientific illustration. Students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Art and Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Integrated Studio Arts, or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Integrated Visual Arts.
The four-year B.A. in Art and Design presents two pathways: Art and Culture or Visual Culture Studies. Both tracks mandate that students supplement their core studies with coursework from another discipline, either within or beyond the College of Design. This complementary study may involve a secondary major, minor, or an advisor-approved customized academic plan.
A defining characteristic of the B.A. in Art and Design is its adaptability. Numerous students collaborate with advisors to craft interdisciplinary programs that combine art studies with fields like journalism, marketing, business administration, entrepreneurial studies, historical research, or psychological sciences.
This undergraduate degree opens doors to diverse postgraduate and professional paths such as art critique, historical preservation, art dealership, restoration work, corporate art curation, museum/gallery administration, and therapeutic art practices.
