The Coupled Natural and Human Systems (CNHS) field promotes cross-disciplinary research that systematically combines social and environmental sciences to tackle ecological challenges. Our work focuses on preserving both ecological and societal resources in the Anthropocene—the present age where human activity dominates Earth's systems. With varied academic backgrounds, CNHS scholars view humanity as inseparable from ecosystems, studying their complex relationships and transformations across different levels. Faculty advisors create interdisciplinary groups to guide CNHS students, leveraging their collective knowledge. The program prioritizes hands-on research and graduate training to address pressing sustainability concerns in practical contexts.
