Suffolk Law's accelerated JD program caters to ambitious, highly dedicated students eager to tackle year-round coursework to complete their law degree a full year faster than conventional programs. Given the rigorous nature of this track, admissions are extremely competitive with limited available spots.
Participants in Suffolk Law's accelerated program can obtain their JD in either 24 months (full-time) or 36 months (part-time evening). While following the same core curriculum and credit requirements as standard JD candidates, they achieve this through an intensive schedule that includes summer sessions before and after their first academic year.
Immigration law spans diverse legal settings, from corporate immigration work representing employers of foreign nationals to deportation cases defending individuals facing federal detention and removal proceedings. Practitioners operate across various environments including firms of all sizes, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. The field primarily divides into two major areas: administrative (affirmative) practice and deportation defense. Administrative work focuses on securing U.S. entry approvals through immigrant/non-immigrant visas or refugee status, covering business, family-based, and humanitarian immigration. Deportation defense mirrors criminal defense work, involving client advocacy, legal motions, brief preparation, witness coordination, courtroom arguments, and appeals - all heightened by the urgent nature of detention cases.
