Our Juris Doctor program blends a challenging academic curriculum with hands-on training in essential legal skills. With small class sizes and clinics featuring excellent faculty-to-student ratios, you'll receive individualized attention throughout your legal education. Upon completing our JD program, you'll master both substantive and procedural law while developing crucial abilities in legal analysis, research, problem-solving, and professional communication. This full-time program at BU Law consists of 85 credits and spans three academic years.

The Public Interest Concentration enhances faculty guidance for students aiming for careers in public interest law at Boston University School of Law. BU Law has dramatically increased its public interest resources in recent years, offering numerous courses along with specialized programs like the Public Interest Scholars Program, Public Interest Retreat, Post Graduate Public Service Fellowships, Loan Repayment Assistance Program, and Pro Bono Program. This concentration further supports students through customized academic advising for public interest career paths.

Concentration requirements include:

Completing at least 24 credits in public interest law courses
Producing a significant research paper on a public interest topic, approved by the Faculty Advisor
Submitting an advising plan that outlines how selected courses and writing projects align with career goals in public interest law

Students must maintain a GPA of 2.0 in second-year courses and seminars and a cumulative GPA of 2.3 at the end of the second year Students must earn a final average of at least 2.3 to graduate and they may not fail more than 5 units after the first year
To apply for admission to the JD program you must -

Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or be enrolled in a course of study that will result in the award of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university before you commence study at BU Law
Have taken the Law School Admission Test LSAT within the past five years
Register with the Law School Admission Council Credential Assembly Service CAS
Transcripts Submit your transcripts through LSACs Credential Assembly Service
Standardized Tests Test scores are required from the Law School Admission Test LSAT
