As psychologists deeply committed to unraveling how the brain produces the complex behaviors observed in humans and animals, we specialize in Biological Psychology and Integrative Neuroscience. Our work focuses on uncovering the biological foundations of behavior. Presently, our field prioritizes discovering the biological processes that drive both normal behavior and behavioral disorders. This includes mapping neural pathways responsible for specific actions, cognitive functions, personality characteristics, and emotional responses. The introduction of fMRI technology has transformed our capacity to perform this research in healthy human subjects. To support this mission, our SCAN (Social, Cognitive, Affective Neuroscience) Center, led by Turhan Canli, houses an NSF-funded 3T MRI facility.
