Established in 1966, Stony Brook's Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology has consistently ranked among the nation's elite clinical programs according to US News and World Report chair rankings. For decades, both faculty and alumni have maintained an impressive publication record (Mattson et al., 2005; Roy et al., 2006). The program achieved the #3 national ranking in the 2020 US News and World Report. Pioneering the behavioral approach in clinical psychology, the program has since expanded while maintaining its behavioral foundation, now incorporating diverse perspectives grounded in empirical research. We aim to produce clinical scientists who combine evidence-based problem-solving with clinical expertise. Students gain comprehensive training in both research and clinical practice across multiple methodologies. This program particularly benefits those pursuing academic and research-oriented career paths.
