Throughout history, legal professionals have been instrumental in shaping global policies, serving as lawmakers, regulators, or government officials involved in foreign policy and international law development. They've led international organizations, provided expertise in public interest NGOs and research institutions, and guided private entities on legal matters in cross-border contexts. With globalization intensifying worldwide connections, attorneys must now develop expertise in international policy formulation. By combining Stanford Law's strengths with the Ford Dorsey International Policy Studies (IPS) program, this dual degree equips students to navigate global challenges and transcend traditional boundaries. Graduates acquire analytical capabilities and policy expertise to operate as legal professionals, advocates, and policymakers across international domains, identifying and articulating connections that others might overlook. Those earning Stanford's JD-IPS dual degree become qualified for public sector legal roles, NGO positions in fields like human rights and environmental law, or private practice advising clients on policy-sensitive transnational matters. Career paths may include positions in federal agencies with international mandates, congressional roles, international organizations, policy-focused NGOs, global law firms, think tanks, consulting agencies, or multinational corporations operating in policy-critical industries.
