The PhD degree is awarded to individuals who exhibit significant scholarly achievement and the capacity for autonomous research and analysis in Psychology. Students usually specialize in one of Psychology's various subfields. The program prioritizes cultivating research proficiency across all specializations, while fostering skills and mindsets conducive to sustained research excellence. This requires two distinct types of training. First, students must acquire extensive knowledge of theoretical frameworks, empirical findings, computational approaches, and methodological techniques. The department offers numerous courses and seminars to facilitate this learning, with students collaborating with their advisor(s) to design an efficient and engaging curriculum. Second, and equally crucial, is direct involvement in psychological research methodologies - an experiential component that coursework alone cannot provide. Consequently, students are required to dedicate 50% of their time to research activities and limit coursework to 10 units per quarter starting from their first term. Since students develop competencies differently and at varying paces, they work closely with advisors to create personalized programs that meet these educational goals.
Applicants from colleges and universities of recognized standing who hold a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent are eligible to be considered for admission for graduate study. English Proficiency: TOEFL - Your minimum score must be 100 (internet based) OR 600 (paper based).
