Engage in analytical thinking about visual arts and cultural imagery, examining how media and artworks convey meaning while tracing their historical evolution, societal impact, and connections to fields like literature, music, and philosophy. The undergraduate curriculum fosters critical analysis of visual culture, with coursework emphasizing image interpretation, historical context, social functions, and interdisciplinary ties. Art History equips students to evaluate diverse creative works—from traditional fine arts (paintings, sculptures) to modern media (film, digital art), material objects (fashion, design), and architectural spaces. We operate on the principle that visual literacy and analytical skills develop through dedicated study and application. Our research spans ancient to contemporary works across global cultures, including Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. As a historical field, Art History aims to reconnect artworks with their original creation contexts, highlighting their dual nature as historical records and social statements. Simultaneously, we explore how art transcends its initial era, acquiring new interpretations across time—including in modern contexts.
