The SIUE Department of Social Work provides distinctive educational opportunities. As part of the College of Arts and Sciences, students gain knowledge through both conventional classroom instruction and hands-on community-based research and learning initiatives. Our program participants collaborate with various institutions, helping deliver services to those facing homelessness, financial hardship, and psychological difficulties. The MSW curriculum equips learners for specialized roles in social work, providing extensive theoretical understanding and practical abilities for positions as therapists, managers, program directors, assessors, and urban planners. Alumni are equipped to spearhead initiatives that improve quality of life for marginalized populations, vulnerable groups, and those facing adversity. Professional pathways span multiple social work domains such as child welfare services, addiction treatment, medical and psychological care, end-of-life services, policy formulation, and local community initiatives.
