The Master of Social Work (MSW) program provides an advanced generalist specialization that upholds the field's dedication to social equity, personal and collective welfare, and evidence-based research. Mirroring UNC Charlotte's status as North Carolina's premier urban research institution, our coursework specifically addresses the challenges faced by at-risk groups in the state's expanding urban and suburban regions. Program graduates will gain the ability to integrate and utilize comprehensive knowledge and competencies to enhance and progress social work practice across diverse environments.
The Advanced Standing track caters to students who obtained a BSW from an accredited program within the last seven years and want to earn their MSW through an accelerated pathway. These students bypass the generalist coursework, completing 39 graduate credits instead - 33 through classroom instruction and 6 via supervised field experience. On-campus Advanced Standing students finish in one year, while online students complete the program in two years.
