SIUE's School of Education, Health and Human Behavior offers a comprehensive graduate program in speech-language pathology that blends academic coursework, hands-on research, and clinical training. Students gain preparation through diverse classes and practical placements to assist people with communication challenges across multiple professional environments. Most students finish the curriculum within five to six semesters of full-time study. Our program boasts a perfect PRAXIS exam pass rate among graduates in recent years. While most classes and clinical sessions occur during daytime hours, some evening options are available. All program requirements are fulfilled at the Edwardsville campus. The Department of Applied Health's speech-language pathology program features distinctive clinical placement opportunities both on campus and at partner institutions. We maintain collaborations with prestigious hospitals, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, schools, and organizations across the country and abroad. Students gain specialized training working with both pediatric and adult populations affected by conditions such as neurological impairments, hearing loss, autism spectrum disorders, speech and language delays, aphasia, fluency disorders, and voice abnormalities. The department runs an on-site Speech-Language-Hearing Center that delivers evaluation and therapy services addressing various communication needs, including speech production, language development, cognitive-communication skills, accent adjustment, and voice modification for transgender clients. Housed on the Vadalabene Center's ground floor, the facility contains nine modern therapy rooms and an observation area. Certified faculty supervise graduate students as they conduct all assessments and therapeutic interventions at the Center.
