The School of Education, Health and Human Behavior's elementary education program is a partnership between SIUE and local school districts. Through this collaboration, future elementary educators gain hands-on experience working with first through sixth graders, guided by classroom teachers, university professors, and faculty supervisors.
This program, offered through the Department of Teaching and Learning, meets rigorous accreditation standards from both national organizations (the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the Association for Childhood Education International) and Illinois State Board of Education requirements. With the elementary education field projected to expand by 12% by 2022 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), SIUE's teacher preparation programs excel at developing skilled educators for various levels - from early childhood to secondary education. Qualification Requirements
Students seeking a bachelor's degree from SIUE who have never attended a college or university, and those who may have taken some coursework at a college or university outside the U.S. but do not currently hold a bachelor's degree.
Submit official records showing grades for all years of secondary/high school AND official exam results or certificate/diploma.
Applicants who have attempted at least 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of college-level transfer credit (either from the U.S. or abroad) are not required to provide secondary school records.
