The School of Education, Health and Human Behavior's elementary education program is a partnership between SIUE and local school districts. Through this collaboration, future elementary educators gain hands-on experience working with first through sixth graders, guided by classroom teachers, university professors, and faculty supervisors.
This program, offered through the Department of Teaching and Learning, meets rigorous accreditation standards from both national organizations (the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the Association for Childhood Education International) and Illinois State Board of Education requirements. With the elementary education field projected to expand by 12% by 2022 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), SIUE's teacher preparation programs excel at developing skilled educators for various levels - from early childhood to secondary education. Alumni find success not only as classroom teachers but also as literacy experts, school administrators, and training professionals across educational and corporate settings.
