The Music and Theater & Dance Departments work together to offer an engaging program featuring instruction in acting, vocal performance, and movement from professors in both disciplines. SIUE students enjoy numerous performance outlets including musical productions, operas, plays, choral groups, dance performances, and student-led organizations. During summer, SIUE's musical theater scene flourishes with SIUE Summer Showbiz staging faculty-directed professional musicals. Additionally, the Music Department conducts an intensive Musical Theater Workshop each summer, offering comprehensive training in vocal techniques, dance, audition skills, and monologue preparation. Musical theater majors receive foundational training in core performance techniques essential for theatrical or entertainment careers, which they refine through practical stage experience. Potential career paths encompass performing as actors, vocalists, dancers, as well as roles in choreography, directing, or arts education.
