Dental hygienists serve as primary caregivers in oral health. Beyond performing routine cleanings, they conduct deep periodontal treatments, educate patients on maintaining healthy smiles, administer sealants and fluoride treatments, record treatment details, create care plans, offer dietary and smoking cessation advice, and capture diagnostic x-rays. These professionals also examine patients for oral diseases and head/neck abnormalities, frequently detecting early signs of serious oral-facial conditions.
Our institution houses Illinois's longest-standing dental hygiene program and provides the state's exclusive Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Selected students attend classes at our renowned campus, while working healthcare practitioners can complete their bachelor's degree through online courses.
Alumni benefit from expanded career opportunities in dentistry and meet qualifications for roles in research, education, or clinical positions within public health initiatives and school-based programs.
