The Associate of Science in Education Middle School program prepares students to serve as paraprofessionals in middle school settings. Participants can also use this program as a stepping stone to pursue a bachelor's degree and eventual teaching certification for middle school classrooms.
The Associate of Arts in Teaching - Middle School Education (MSED) delivers foundational professional knowledge by integrating subject matter expertise with teaching methodologies. Learners gain essential insights into the teaching field and adolescent development. This program highlights individual student differences, acknowledging that children should be viewed within their familial, cultural, social, and environmental contexts. The AAT-MSED enables participants to select two specialization areas from four available options. These dual focus areas equip future educators with skills for diverse classroom settings, whether teaching multiple subjects or specializing in integrated subject areas. Available concentration combinations are: Math/Science (STEM), Language Arts/Social Studies, Language Arts/Math, Language Arts/Science, Math/Social Studies, and Science/Social Studies. This degree qualifies graduates for paraprofessional positions or serves as a pathway to a Bachelor's in Middle School Education. To earn the Associate of Arts in Teaching, students must maintain a minimum 2.70 GPA across all university coursework and successfully complete all required courses (major courses require a C grade or better). The AAT-MSED requires completion of 61-63 credit hours, varying by chosen concentration areas, encompassing the following curriculum requirements.
