The Pennsylvania Department of Education mandates that educators instructing occupational skills in state-approved career and technical education (CTE) programs must possess a state-issued teaching certification. In Pennsylvania, CTE instructors obtain a permanent teaching credential upon finishing a 60-credit educator preparation program.
Most CTE educators fulfill the certification program requirements while actively teaching. These professionals have already demonstrated expertise in their respective trades. The program equips them with the necessary pedagogical skills to excel as educators.
IUP's vocational educator certification program combines hands-on field experience with traditional classroom learning. Faculty from IUP regularly visit career and technical schools to support teachers' professional development. Participants also complete standard university coursework and attend regional networking sessions to collaborate with peers.
The 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Vocational Education program serves current career and technical teachers, culminating in both a degree and permanent vocational teaching certification.
