This program fulfills the requirements for an Associate in Science Track 1 degree with an Environmental Science focus. Designed as a pre-major track, it equips students to transfer as juniors to four-year institutions to pursue bachelor's degrees in environmental science or related disciplines. Environmental Science students explore critical questions like: What strategies can prevent colony collapse disorder? Should GMO foods carry special labeling? What effects does intensive agriculture have on plant biodiversity? The field employs interdisciplinary methods to examine changes in both natural and human environments. Throughout the program, students build upon core scientific principles in math, chemistry, physics, and biology while specializing in specific scientific areas to develop sophisticated understanding of modern environmental issues. Learning primarily happens through hands-on fieldwork, complemented by lab and classroom instruction. Participants gain essential competencies including data gathering and interpretation, effective communication skills, and collaborative teamwork experience. Graduates find worldwide career opportunities in environmental consulting, government agencies, industry, and beyond. An Environmental Science degree also serves as foundation for advanced studies in law, medicine, veterinary science, architecture, or graduate programs.
Applicants can apply who are high school graduates; or 18 years of age or older.
