Our integrated program offers students the chance to collaborate with distinguished faculty on research projects, partner with professionals and local groups to tackle environmental challenges both nearby and worldwide, and engage in hands-on learning experiences across the U.S. and internationally. Students also join our vibrant SU community through intimate class settings, campus clubs, and enriching extracurricular programs. Our mission is to investigate, evaluate, and develop groundbreaking approaches that are environmentally responsible and equitable. Achieving sustainability requires comprehensive problem-solving methods that unite varied perspectives and interdisciplinary cooperation.
As an Environmental Studies major at Seattle University, you can: Customize your degree path. Select from four focus areas: Urban Sustainability; Policy, Politics and Justice; Environmental Education and Communication; or Ecological Systems – or create your own concentration. Examine human-environment interactions – tackling pressing concerns affecting diverse ecosystems, from urban centers to rural landscapes and marine environments. Develop solutions for sustainability issues through an equity-focused framework – building essential knowledge in natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Master analytical tools, critical thinking abilities, and effective communication strategies needed to address ecological challenges, collaborate with various groups, and guide communities toward sustainable practices. Combine fieldwork and coursework throughout the Puget Sound region and other locations.
