The Master of Fine Arts in Writing (MFAW) program embraces writers across all disciplines—including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama—as well as visual artists incorporating language into their creative work. This two-year degree offers a structured yet adaptable curriculum designed to push boundaries while supporting personal artistic development in both process and form.

Academic Structure
Core Graduate Projects: Serving as the foundation of the Writing MFA, these projects follow the studio visit model. Students engage in personalized sessions with faculty mentors, receiving detailed critiques on their self-directed creative work. Participants have the opportunity to collaborate with advisors from both the Writing Program and other departments, broadening the conceptual frameworks relevant to their artistic practice. Qualification Requirements

A conferred four-year baccalaureate degree or its equivalent is required for admission to all graduate programs at SAIC. Official translations are expected for all educational documents issued in a language other than English. A translation agency or university language department should issue official translations typed on official stationary and the translator must attest proficiency in the original language and indicate their translations are accurate word-for-word.

2 Letters of Reference are required.
