The Creative Writing Certificate program offers two distinct focus areas.

The General Writing track strengthens students' creative writing skills while providing practical knowledge for marketing and publishing their work.
The Professional Writing concentration targets specialized fields including screenwriting, technical writing, journalism, and non-fiction.
To complete the Creative Writing Certificate, students must earn 18 units: both required core courses (6 units) plus four courses from their chosen track (General Writing or Professional Writing, 12 units). Two of these courses may be substituted with approved electives (listed below). Each track includes suggested elective options. Before receiving the certificate, students must present a public reading lasting at least twenty minutes, coordinated with a creative writing faculty member from the English Department.
